Welcome to Abingdon Border Collies,
home to Lonerider Nan, Rojo, Thong, and many other accomplished border collie dogs. At Abingdon Border Collies we are well known for our red border collies but also own, breed and train black and white border collie dogs as well. Abingdon Border Collies is also the home of Brian Abingdon, a very successful clinician, handler and stock dog trainer training working ranch stock dogs and dogs who are highly successful in ASCA, USBCHA and other Trial Championship venues. Brian has placed in the Lone Star Futurity and the USBCHA Finals in Open, Novice, and Nursery classes. He and his dogs have won 14 Open Trial buckles and he has trained 7 ASCA Working Trial Champion border collies.
While color can be an important deciding factor to many individuals looking for a border collie, Abingdon Border Collies' most important objective in breeding is to have a line of border collies that are gentle enough to treat sheep well but tough enough to work rank cattle. Our dogs are used on a daily basis for working sheep and gathering cattle.
The dog that Abingdon Border Collies became most well known for is was red and white border collie by the name of Rojo. Rojo was the Reserve North American Champion Working Dog. Rojo is no longer with us but we trace many of our border collies' lineage straight back to this champion border collie dog. We are also fortunate to have stored semen available for future breedings from this accomplished red border collie.
Another talented border collie we are proud to own is Thong. Starting her career early, this red and white long haired border collie is one of the youngest border collie dogs to qualify for the USBCA Nursery Finals at only 13 months and qualify again at two years of age. We are fortunate to have added her full brother Tip to our kennel, a long haired red and white border collie who completed his Working Trial Championship in only one summer.
While predominantly focusing on the red and white border collies, we are also proud to own Lex, a Broken Circle Sue and Nap son. This black and white border collie male won 14 open trials in four years and qualified to attend the USBCHA Nursery Finals.
Although we breed, train, and show many dogs at Abingdon Border Collies, it's our belief that when a border collie has completed his or her show career a working home situation is the best solution for their continued health and happiness. We find working homes for many of our dogs where they can continue to excel at the tasks they love while having a family to love them as well. We retain breeding rights to these dogs so that future generations of puppies can continue to carry their excellent bloodlines and abilities. For more information regarding our other border collies please select a dog from our studs or female dog menus at the top of each page.
